All exterior paints used on Winchester Safes are powder-coated for a hard and durable finish.  Powder-coat finishes hold up better than wet-spray paint and are more environmentally friendly.  Powder-coat paints do not create Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's), which are released into the atmosphere through other paint processes. Powder-coat finishes are excellent at keeping the safe from rusting because of complete coverage. Wet-spray safes are not painted on the bottom for complete coverage, which means the safe could rust on the bottom if it is exposed to or sitting in water. Our powder-coated safes are painted on the bottom, which is important if your safe is ever sitting in water as they will not rust.
